"Know Problem" February 13, 2008 Microsoft Optical Desktop Elite for Bluetooth has what Microsoft's technical support group calls a "know problem". The problem is typing keys or moving the mouse will only intermittently bring a computer out of hibernation mode. And restoring system functionality with this Bluetooth keyboard and mouse requires either logging in over network using remote desktop client and rebooting, pressing reset button to reboot the system, or reattaching a USB keyboard and rebooting. After several weeks of emails and phone calls exchanges with someone named "Max" in Microsoft his recommendation was to leave the original USB keyboard attached to bring the system out of hibernation mode when experiencing this "know problem" BRILLIANT. We replaced this junk with a Logitech diNovo Edge Bluetooth.
Keyboard and mouse are awesome, but dear god by another bluetooth transceiver February 1, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've had this product for about a year now. The mouse has worked great the entire time. I've had to replace the mouse batteries twice, which isn't too bad over a year. However, after having this keyboard for a year, this is the first time I've actually been able to use it. From what I can tell, the keyboard is very nice. But as I said, it took me a year to get it connected and it appears it was not the keyboard that caused me problems. It was the bluetooth transceiver that came with the mouse and keyboard. The transceiver is a worthless piece of crap. I attempted to associate several other devices with my computer using this transceiver but only the mouse ever worked. By the keyboard and mouse but save yourself a bunch of trouble and buy a different transceiver. The Iogear GBU311 work perfectly pretty much the first time (Microsoft overwrote the driver after the install but this was easily fixed)
Decent for the money January 15, 2008 I wont say I don't like this keyboard, because I do like it, I just think the logitech I have works better than this one does. I seem to have to pair this one up every few weeks, I never had to do that with the Logitech bluetooth one. I dont know if I would recommend this.
If you are a Gamer, look elsewhere December 31, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I enjoy gaming. I have my computer hooked up to my 62" TV. I bought this combo so I could game in comfort. I am located about 5 feet from the BT receiver. The keyboard loses connection about every 3rd time and takes at least 3 seconds sometimes more to come out of sleep mode (which it goes into very quickly). You'd think with such a fast sleep mode setting it wouldn't suck batteries so bad. I have to replace the batteries every 3-4 days in both the keyboard and mouse. The mouse lags which makes it about impossible to play anything timed or MMO style. It works moderately well for just everyday stuff like checking email and surfing the web (if you can get past the poor battery life and disconnects). Hopefully someday a company will step up and make a combo that really works.
Works Very Well November 27, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Excellent product. Great battery life. Excellent range. Set up under Microsoft Vista was a breeze.
Tip #1: Discard the enclosed CDs and download the latest versions of IntelliType and IntelliPoint from Microsoft.
Tip #2: Rechargeable batteries work best in medium to high drain constant use items (they lose their charge over time even when not used). This is a low drain periodic use item, so you're better off with regular batteries.
