5 out of 5 stars Very nice   August 23, 2010
Robert Stimson (Hawaii)
I use 3D Connexion, Standard Edition, with Google Earth, usually in conjunction with the regular mouse. It's a lot handier than the mouse-driven controls alone. I use my left hand, and although I'm right-handed, the device works smoothly and easily.

5 out of 5 stars Space Navigator   July 2, 2010

Superfast delivery. Outstanding product; I don't know how I got by without it. For CAD and graphics, it's like going from the horse and buggy to a Ferrari. 3Dconnexion SpaceNavigator SE (Standard Edition) 3D Navigation Device USB ( 3DX-700028 )

4 out of 5 stars cool stuff, a little wild at first   June 16, 2010
Olo (Mx)
I'm still on the learning curve, this tool is seamlessly intuitive to use with google earth, but in 3d studio max it takes a bit of tweaking on the settings and a bit of practice and skill to get it working just fine

I downloaded the latest driver from the website, but I had a little problem with the control panel, I tried to open it the normal way, but no dice, instead, when you press one of the side buttons, a configuration tool appears, it wasn't mentioned in the instruction manual, so I spent a good amount of time fooling around trying to get the control panel to work

it has a decent weight, it doesn't move around your desktop

there are two things that bother me, I use a cintiq as second display, and when I'm working on it and want to tweak the settings, the configuration window always appears on the left display, so I have to press a button on the cintiq to switch displays, drag the window to the left and switch back again, every time I want to change something, it's annoying

And the real reason this didn't get a 5 star review:

NO SUPPORT FOR MUDBOX? WTF? seriously WTF??

4 out of 5 stars Works well but . . .   March 29, 2010

It worked as advertised once I downloaded the latest driver. The one in the box did not perform on Solidworks 2010. I'm surprised by the ease of use, it's compactness, and it's weight. It stays where I put it. For my needs, a very nice product.

5 out of 5 stars A Must Have for CAD Designers   March 21, 2010

I you are a CAD designer & have not tried any of the 3Dconnexion products...what are you waiting for. I migrated from a SpaceBall 4000 to the SpaceNagigator & love it. I opted for the SpaceNavigator because I didn't use the bottons on my SpaceBall, so why spend the extra money for features I wouldn't use. The SpaceNavigator handles a little differently than the SpaceBall, but I got used to it pretty quickly. If you want to increase productivity & flexibility while designing you need a 3D mouse. They take a bit to get used to, but you can adjust the sensitivity of the puck until you get used to it & then gradually increase it until it fits your style.

The SpaceNavigator is very heavy & stays put during use. I also like the small footprint so it gives me more room on my desk top. What more can I say, except this is a must have for every CAD designer.
