IN A NUTSHELL:

TRY THE FREE SOLUTIONS BEFORE THROWING AWAY YOUR MONEY ON THIS TRASH.

There's no way to say it--I've been ROBBED. Roxio has STOLEN my money for what I can only describe as the WORST PROGRAM EVER in my decades as a Mac user: crashes, quirky-functionality, half-functionality, non-functionality. And the most bloated program this side of Microsoft. Not to mention they have full and complete rights to the title of industry's WORST TECH SUPPORT.

About the TiVo "functionality":

No one tells you:

* Many of the digital programs on your TiVo are PROTECTED so you will be unable to transfer those files for mobile use. Protection is set by your cable provider. Pretty much if it's a digital signal and not an echo of a broadcast channel--forget it.

* You don't need Toast to transfer files to your system. Just open your WEB BROWSER and go to the TiVo's local IP using https. There are also open source solutions.

* There are OPEN SOURCE programs to remove your video from its .TIVO envelope (into MPEG-2) and to prepare your video for mobile use. The non-tech-minded should proceed with caution. For those things where open source may be wanting, invest elsewhere (such as in a copy of QuickTime Pro).

I sincerely wish I had done this research before I took TiVo's advice hook-line-and-sinker and wasted good money on this God-awful P.O.S.

If that doesn't say it all, I'm not quite sure how else to convey my message. This is absolutely the worst company I have ever dealt with both from a technical support and customer service basis. I bought this product in order to be able to transfer videos from TIVO onto my MAC, then onto my Droid X. While the transfer from TIVO to Mac works, primarily because I am pretty sure TIVO had input into that programming, the Toast component of trying to get it onto the smartphone renders the video to be of such poor quality that it isn't worth your time to do it. And it does take forever to get it transferred into a format that can be read by the Droid X and other smart phones as I've tested that as well.

Although if you have a Mac I am not sure you have another option for getting the TIVO transfer piece, but after that go with Aunsoft Video Convertor for getting it onto your smartphone. While still a lengthy process to do so, at least the video output is great.

It crashes continually, usually after it's already taken 4 hours or so to burn a DVD from some Tivo programs. Their customer service is laughable. Stay away if you at all can.

We purchased this product at the suggestion of Tivo, in order to import recorded shows to the Mac and then again to a video ipod. Toast is NOT easy to navigate. While we were able to load Toast, the Tivo portion of the software took hours to figure out. We contacted Tivo and Roxio, and both directed us to the other. Finally, we kept at it and finally got it to work. It takes a long time to move the recorded shows. To date, our experience is that it takes 4-5 hours to move a half hour recording. Also, the help desk at Roxio has limited customer hours, making it difficult to contact them if you work traditional weekly hours.

All in all, we had no choice but to purchase the product and it works, eventually. It can be vastly improved, though, and more user friendly.

I have used Toast 6, 7, 8 and I purchased Toast 10 back in July 2009. After a year I more often than not end up using Toast 8 (which I am glad I kept!).
This version is AWFUL! I agree with the users who have already given this a 1 Star. This version is buggy -- prone to crash -- will give an error message about half the time that "Compression Failed" (which then works fine on Toast 8). When it comes to support the company does not answer emails and the support site is difficult to navigate.
If you can get toast 8 or 9 get it. Avoid this version. Also, Toast 8 (I am not sure about 9) supports DivX, which 10 does not.
