Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The Linksys Powerline AV Network Kit contains a single-port Powerline AV Adapter, and a four-port Powerline AV Adapter, which let you easily create a network using the existing electrical outlets in your home. Now you don't have to drill holes in walls and climb through the attic or cellar to install network cables - just use the wires that already run through the building. With Powerline AV Network Adapters, you can connect computers or any other wired Ethernet device using the HomePlug AV network standard. Adding devices to the network is as simple as plugging a Powerline AV Adapter into an electrical outlet, and connecting your Ethernet-equipped devices to the built-in Ethernet ports. Additional devices can be connected to the same network using additional Powerline AV Adapters plugged into an electrical outlet anywhere in the house.Once your computers are connected to the network, they can share resources like printers and storage space, and all kinds of files - video, music, digital pictures, and documents. With high data rate, you can play virtually lag-free head-to-head network computer games, and run applications like streaming standard or HD video, and Voice over IP telephony. Plug your Internet connected router into a Powerline AV Adapter and you'll be able to get to the Internet from any Powerline AV attached computer in the house. The Linksys Powerline AV Network kit gets you started with easy, "no new wires", home or office networking.

2 out of 5 stars Not streaming Netflix movies   December 31, 2008
I have a Samsung BD-p2500 Blu-ray player which has Netflix streaming capabilities and bought this in order to be able to use this feature. I set it up right out of the box and plugged it into my laptop to test it out and it worked great. I then plugged it into the Blu-ray player and it connected to Netflix. But when it comes to the actual streaming of the video, it freezes; it says to check the connection. It will get to about 50% streamed and then stop. I think it might perhaps be too much bandwidth to stream through the electrical system but I saw an earlier post said Netflix streaming worked on another player.

3 out of 5 stars Caveat Emptor   December 30, 2008
Be warned!! Linksys does not provide a configuration utility for this product. They do offer a firmware upgrade, but no utility to install it. Go figure. And, Linksys has known about this shortcoming for quite awhile. Also, if you want to change the security password from the default, you cannot do it without some sort of configuration utility. There is a utility that works, but you have to search the forums for a workaround and even then it may or may not work. Hint: use the utility for the PLE200.

Having said that, I like the product. I have gotten rid of wireless adapters and print servers and USB cables, all of which added to the clutter around my computers.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome device   December 30, 2008
I think my room is impenetrable to wireless signals. I mean, I can connect to the media center in my living room... but signal was very spotty. I was using XBox wireless game adapter to connect and it was working "okay" but everytime I got disconnected from games, I yelled profanities I shouldn't type here. My friends even gave me gift cards with message of "get better network solution". So after researching I ordered this device from amazon.

I was done installing in 5 minutes. Just connect and boom, it was already connecting. The thing that really attracted me to this device was the 4 port it comes with. Before purchasing this I had 4 port switch to connect my 360, PS3, Wii and slingbox to that was connected to my wireless gaming adapter. It was a hassle because I had to disconnect my slingbox network cable to connect any of my 3 gaming system since it just wouldn't connect without doing this. But with this device I was able to connect all the devices without the hassle of removing anything. I was slinging while downloading on 360 and it was working perfectly. And fast too! I tried these powerline adapters before and I had to change to wireless because I was getting crappy speed. But after downloading few game videos from 360, I realized that I was getting almost same speed as connecting directly via my 100 foot cat6 cable. Only difference is that I don't get tripped on the wires on the ground.

$150 price tag is bit pricey. But to me it was well worth it knowing I don't have to worry about people telling me "Dude, you're breaking up. I don't know what you're saying" anymore.

5 out of 5 stars Worth Every Penny!   December 26, 2008
I purchased this apprehensive as well based on reviews from several web sites. but the thought of being able to connect my blu ray (LGBD300) to watch netflix in bed had me give this one a try. Also I hoped to be able to connect my work furnished laptop which does not have wireless without having to run to the basement everytime i had to login from home.
Box came, opened it, connected one to the router in the basement, saw the lights come on and then with baited breath, ran up the 2nd story bedroom to test. Voila!! Instant connectivity. look ma no software... Just strong signal! came back andb ought another PLE300 to add. I think they should be a little cheaper.....

5 out of 5 stars Great Alternative for hard to reach wireless spots....   December 18, 2008

To begin with I want to say that I did some serious researching before purchasing this product. I actually thought about it for about 2-weeks before making my decision. Since I have relied heavily on so many different customer product reviews, I decided it was time that I contributed by writing about this product.

My situation:

I've had a wireless network for a while now. The problem was that the Wireless Router was located upstairs and my PS3 was located downstairs. For some odd reason, my laptops seemed to work fine all over the house but the PS3 was hit and miss. It worked OK but when I attempted to play games that required more bandwidth, it would always drop the connection. So I needed an alternative to wireless. In addition, I have a DirecTV DVR connected to the same TV as the PS3. DirecTV now offers OnDemand programming but it requires an internet connection via an Ethernet wire. I needed a solution for both systems and chose the PLK300.

I now have my PS3 and DirecTV connected to the PLK300. They both work great! My PS3 no longer drops the internet connection when playing games that require a great amount of bandwidth such as Resistance 2 (in two player online mode). My DirecTV on Demand downloads programs very fast. I hit the download button, wait about 2-mins and then begin viewing my programing. I even tested it with a High Definition download and it worked flawlessly.

I highly recommend this product!
