Its open, but not great March 4, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am grateful that Edimax uses Ralink and its opensource driver. That said, I also hoped that Edimax would be friendlier to Linux noobies. First of all, there is no mention of Linux in the Installation Guide nor on the CD. The only mention of Linux is on the box which has Mandrake (Mandark) mispelled. The installation CD does not work on Linux. I searched the folders of the CD and found a folder for Fedora Drivers. I extracted the file and it turns out that there are no drivers included. I had to go to Ralink to download the driver. The installation instructions did not work so I got some lines from an Ubuntu blog. These did not work either.
Lastly, the USB adapter is so wide it takes up 2 spaces on my laptop or my hub.
Suggestions: 1.Please make installation easier. 2.Provide more documentation. If you are marketing to Linux users, tailor to us a bit. 3. Make a slimmer model.
Thanks,
Edward Linux User #466233
